Apocalypse Rural // residencia

“The idea of humans detaching ourselves from the earth, living in a civilizational abstraction, is absurd. It suppresses diversity, denies the plurality of forms of life, existence and habits. It offers the same menu, the same costumes and, if possible, the same language for all.” __ Ailton Krenak, Ideas for Postponing the End of the World
Based on this premise and in conversation with the book “Ideias para adiar o fim do Mundo”, by the indigenous philosopher Ailton Krenak, which brings up the theme of the separation of humans from the earth and how this annihilates the space to be and to exist in the world in our nature and diversity, I developed the process of creation and conversations with the land of the Portillo de Busto y de Burgos Village.
The so-called “Rural Apocalypse” of El Hacedor, and its concerns about the “end of the rural” and the consumption of its territory by the big cities, connected with my production and my work mainly around issues of the feeling of belonging, identity and the absences imposed by today’s accelerated times, which culminate socially in the absence of the perception of the senses of the body itself in relation to the place from which we should never disconnect: the land.
The process of connection and presence of my body to this environment began with the practice and daily use of a ‘diary/graphic guide’ called ‘De Corpo Presente’, created with the intention of facilitating the contact and perception of the body in space. and which aims to guide anyone on a journey of presence and perception of the senses of their own body to the perception of place. This process, which consists mainly of listening to the BODY in relationship, was the initial driver of the CREATIVE ACT and the gateway to a mapping of the senses, from this, was created a series of drawings, an entity-installation which developed in a Performance.
